Our car trip through the west was awesome and memorable — you ought to give it a try! I actually do know which it is. Anyway, whatever the case, I have learned to plan a relaxing vacation vs. Our first family trip included sights such as Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Yellowstone, and the Tetons. It was 13 fun filled, travel filled, and gorgeous country filled days.

If you are interested in seeing those sights and more, keep reading and then plan a trip of your own. It was magnificent. We flew from Tampa, Florida to Denver Colorado and then I had planned an hour and 30 minute drive up to Cheyenne, Wyoming that evening. If you want to stretch this part out a bit, spend the night in Denver and the next day exploring Rocky Mountain National Park.

It too is beautiful. From Cheyenne we headed up north, along the east border of Wyoming and eventually took a right hand turn into South Dakota. Our goal was to visit Mt. Rushmore and then head over to Deadwood for the night. This is a monument in progress to commemorate the famous Indian, Crazy Horse. You can see the bronze sculpture of the eventual end product, and how far they have come in the sculpting. While you are there you may watch a video explaining the Crazy Horse story and even watch as puffs of smoke come from the rocks as blasting is taking place.

Next was Mt. Rushmore in all its majesty. OK, who can name the Presidents? Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. Although for us this cemetery with the graves of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane was because of the Deadwood show, these people were a part of our American history. We ate dinner there and had fun talking about some of the events that occurred there on the show.

Of course there were pictures of the famous early Americans and the real history was nice to read about. On day three, we took off and headed back east a bit to visit the Badlands National Park.

As you are driving along, you can see it coming up. It starts as rolling low rock and turns into high jagged rock…. Once we reached a couple of the lookout places, you could really see that this was a land that little life could survive on.

Then with how dry and hot I might add, it was in the Badlands, I was still amazed that cactus plants were thriving. Their blooms were incredibly hearty and their yellow stood out like shiny diamonds in the rough surroundings. I was so inspired by the beauty of thee flowers, I took dozens of photos and then spent a couple weeks painting them.

This is one of my favorites because I did a fairly good job with the shadows…. This is just one more shot of the stark beauty of the Badlands National Park. Even a simple wildflower looks full of life against the rough, weatherworn background. We left Deadwood the next day and headed toward Cody Wyoming.

This was a marvelous stop because there are trails around the Tower and you can watch people climbing it.

The view from some of the trails was pretty too. One is wearing yellow and the lower one is in white. It does offer superb views of the Tower and great sites for family photographs. The road map of Iceland was color coded and the location of each accommodation was circled with the name and date of check-in written in. There was a book with details of every city and site with driving info.

They thought of every detail so we d chengelh34, United States Express Iceland, May 2013 A great self-drive circle of Iceland with Nordic Visitor. We would highly recommend the self-drive trip around the Ring Road as arranged by Nordic Visitor. The country is spectacular!. It was easy for us because all the accommodations were arranged and were great. There was a detailed itinerary and information, back-up systems if needed, and quick and thorough service from Hilmar in the office.

I would love to have taken 2 weeks instead of one to really absorb the country but what we experienced in beauty, natural phenomenon, and nice people made for a terrific vacation. I have enough history and geology to think about to last for a long time.

From the moment of booking to our return flight NV and Alexandra made the whole trip a once in a lifetime experience. Even the weather was perfect although I'm not sure they had anything to do about that. The booking process was simple and clearly explained everything we were booking and the extra options available. Our hotel preferences were almost perfectly met and the one choice we couldn't get in (Ranga) was substituted with Hotel Anna, which was the gem of all the lovely hotels we stayed in.

Take a Trip Out West for Vacation This Year

Alexandra worked so hard to meet our requests and got upgrades where possible, adding welcome luxury to our tour. The standard sights (Reykjavik, Gulfoss, Geysir, Blue Lagoon) have to be done - all are very memorable. What really stood out though were the days we toured the south of the island. Walking behind a waterfall at Skogafoss, driving through incredible ever-changing landscapes with glaciers within touching distance, black beaches and whale-watching at Vik, snowmobiling on a volcano, glacier-walking, Watching seals swim in beautiful Jokulsalon in the middle of a blizzard and an hour later climbing a waterfall in warm sunshine.

A truly unbelievable place. Speci C S, Australia Icehotel Winter Adventure, February 2013 Friendly efficient and very helpful We would like to say that our consultant Cecilia Markov was fantastic, we travel widely and she is the best consultant we have dealt with, friendly efficient and very helpful.
